GFANZ JETP In-Country Lead - Indonesia (12 Month Contract)JakartaPosted Apr 3, 2024 - Requisition No. 124223The Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) is a global coalition of financial institutions committed to accelerating the decarbonisation of the economy in line with governments' commitments under the Paris Agreement. Members - numbering over 550 financial institutions from 50 jurisdictions - have committed to the goal of net zero by 2050, in line with science-based pathways to limit warming to 1.5 degrees C. GFANZ was established in 2021 as a forum for delivering sector-wide solutions for net-zero transition, helping to ensure high levels of ambition are met with credible action that support transition globally. As a matter of priority, GFANZ is working with local and global partners to unlock transition finance in support of emerging markets and developing economies seeking to accelerate their energy and wider net-zero transitions. Our work is organised through a cross-cutting CEO-led workstream on Mobilising Capital, regional networks in Asia Pacific and Africa, and country-specific work in support of G20/G7 Country Platforms and Just Energy Transition Partnerships (JETPs). To support our exciting work on the Indonesia JETP we are looking for experienced and effective individuals to lead our in-country efforts for Indonesia’s JETP. The successful candidate will act as the main point of contact in country for GFANZ’s JETP work and will have frequent contact with Indonesia based stakeholders to the JETP like the JETP Secretariat, PATEN House, GFANZ working group participants, the International Partners Group etc. The role requires a deep commitment to ensuring the JETP's success, a clear understanding of the respective roles of all involved, an ability to coordinate and participate in tasks that focus on implementation of the Comprehensive Investment and Policy Plan which was launched in late 2023. The role also requires the successful candidate to support wider GFANZ work in Indonesia as appropriate to GFANZ’s wider mission. It will require excellent stakeholder management skills, a clear understanding of energy transition in EMDEs and an ability to foster a diverse network within the area of both finance and energy. We'll trust you to: Serve as the main GFANZ point of contact in-country, building and maintaining excellent relations with key in-country stakeholders across government, as well as international partners, multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, and private and financial sectors Develop an excellent sense of the JETP energy transition priorities and how those can be delivered on effectively, spotting opportunities to support the government in their objectives, and work patiently to deliver complex policy, project and financing work that unlocks tangible results Work closely and seamlessly with the GFANZ leadership, central secretariat and regional networks to advance common priorities and draw on wider expertise and resources, including colleagues dedicated to capital mobilisation/JETPs Have a clear sense of the contribution that private finance - local and global - can play in contributing to wider efforts towards a successful JETP, and ensure that GFANZ and its members deliver the input needed to the JETP deliverables in a timely and effective way such that we unlock financing for transition Ensure that the approach being taken at the country level aligns with the broader frameworks and approaches being developed across GFANZ's capital mobilisation work, and input your practical expertise into our wider capital mobilisation and regional efforts, so that we actively learn by doing and make progress on cross-cutting issues around private capital mobilisation for energy transition You'll need to have: Experience of working in country including a network within energy transition and/or climate finance Proven experience of working effectively with local public and private sector stakeholders and building relationships across levels of leadership Expertise in some combination of energy transition, policy contexts, and climate finance. Experience in at least two is expected and all three would be an advantage A certain level of technical understanding within the power system would be an advantage Strong ability to take a strategic approach while also delivering practically as part of a complex multi stakeholder project Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
