Job Category Department for Business and Trade roles (DBT) Job Subcategory Department for Business and Trade (DBT) Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities) Main Purpose of Job:UK Defence & Security Exports (DSE) is the part of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) that helps the UK’s defence and security industries export their products and deepen their partnerships. Working closely with industry, other UK government departments and the Indonesian government, you will be responsible for growing the UK’s trade and investment relationship with Indonesia in the cyber security sector, by helping UK companies win new business here.It is an exciting time in the cyber security space in Indonesia. The rapid growth of Indonesia’s information and communication technology industry has driven unprecedented transformation as relationships between organisations and their customers and stakeholders take place in increasingly digitised environments. This accelerated pace of digital change has led to a rise in cyber security threats and incidents across large businesses and public organisations, and with it a great opportunity to promote the UK’s cyber security expertise to Indonesia.The cyber security sector is vast. The market is a unique ‘borderless’ environment and threats change constantly due to the shortening shelf life of technology. Within the UK, the cyber security ecosystem combines technical expertise and a world-leading research base with a history of cyber security excellence and leadership on developing global standards. It has an established, expert and innovative cyber security sector made up of companies across a full range of capabilities, meaning it is ideally placed to provide expert, trusted advice and services to buyers across Indonesia.The job holder will work to the Head of UK Defence and Security Exports in Indonesia and will lead on developing a cyber security exports strategy and implementation plan, underpinned by a robust pipeline of export opportunities across the government and commercial sector. This includes championing our cyber security offer to Indonesia’s New Capital City and identifying opportunities for UK companies to partner on this innovative project.You will act as a trusted advisor to support UK companies on routes to market drawing on your experience of the most effective ways of partnering and doing business here. You will also seek to position the UK as a partner of choice for cyber security, creating and curating bespoke offers for customers in Indonesia, running trade missions and pitching UK companies to address identified capability gaps.We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing needs of business.What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:Responsibility for the management and co-ordination of all aspects of cyber security exports activity in British the Embassy Jakarta. This includes but is not limited to: Producing a long-term strategy for how the UK will grow cyber security exports in Indonesia and lead on its delivery. This will be based on in-depth analysis and be complementary to wider Embassy and government cyber related objectives. Develop this plan in consultation with UK government and industry partners and secure buy in from seniors to help drive its delivery.Draw on the DBT’s delivery toolkit to produce a comprehensive implementation plan that will underpin the strategy. This will include organising and executing events including trade missions, inward and outward visits by senior officials and ministers and supporting relevant exhibitions in the UK and Indonesia. Responsibility for ensuring all requisite visit programmes, briefings and reports are produced on time and to a high standard.Working independently to identify and promote business opportunities in Indonesia for UK firms in the cyber security sector and develop a pipeline of projects through market intelligence, research, company engagement and relationship management of stakeholders. Support UK business to secure these projects.Having a comprehensive understanding of the Indonesia cyber security landscape and how to successfully pursue business in Indonesia. Using your knowledge and expertise to advise and guide senior management and promote Indonesia to UK industry, ensuring they understand the opportunities but also the risks and challenges of operating in market. Lead on organising events such as webinars and forums to share your insights and garner interest and support.Relationship manage and provide expert advice and practical assistance for UK cyber security companies, which have both the capability and appetite to secure contracts in Indonesia.Being a sector expert on the cyber threat environment and the UK cyber security sector, so that you can talk with authority and at a suitability technical level to promote UK capabilities and shape the industry offer to meet Indonesian requirements. You will also need to lead on developing a complementary communications plan with DBT/embassy marketing teams to help raise the profile of the UK cyber security sector.Linked to the above, develop a network of contacts within the Indonesian military, police, government, security agencies and the private sector to develop in-depth knowledge of cyber projects in the pipeline and future Indonesian requirements. This will require engagement with and influencing of senior representatives, leading and chairing meetings on behalf of UK government, to ensure UK interest are effectively represented and progressed.Act as the primary point of contact for the development of the UK’s commercial cyber security offering for Indonesia’s New Capital City (IKN), prompting the UK as a partner of choice and ensuing industry is well placed to win contracts. Own UK DSE’s relationship with the IKN authority and work with other Indonesian partners on the project to understand their capability requirements. Use your knowledge and expertise to advise, inform and corral UK industry to develop a coherent UK cyber security offering. You will also work with UK sector teams in DBT and the wider Embassy to understand the broader UK offer and ensure cyber security is appropriately incorporated in the overall UK pitch. Identify, prioritise and work to resolve market access barriers in the cyber security sector to unlock business opportunities for UK organisations. Lead on other related areas in the defence and security exports space such as electronic warfare, AI, big data, and protection of critical national infrastructure scoping opportunities and developing plans and recommendations to senior management to grow our activity within them. Proactively build relationships with embassy colleagues to identify synergies between trade promotion and wider UK Government objectives, including UK Ministry of Defence, trade policy, investment, UK Export Finance, UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, Overseas Development Assistance programmes. Work closely with DBT London in particular the Security and Cyber Security Team in UK DSE to cultivate opportunities and expanding UK companies interested in the market. Provide support to priority projects within the team as required. This may include supporting areas that fall outside of our core business area but are in support of wider DBT objectives. Corporate: All staff are expected to participate in wider Embassy activities which can include active work on various committees and other corporate roles, as well as play a role in crisis management activities on an ad-hoc basis. Essential qualifications, skills and experience We are seeking a motivated self-starter who can demonstrate a proactive and flexible approach to identifying trends and opportunities and developing plans to capitalise on these. You will need excellent interpersonal and communications skills to build strong relations within the Embassy and with senior stakeholders at the regional and national level as well as with UK and Indonesian cyber security companies.
